At The Ninth Middle Ridge, residents are empowered to shape, take ownership of and make decisions about the community in which they live.
Our residents organise their own busy village activity calendar so there’s always something to do. Join your new neighbours for Friday afternoon drinks, gather in the craft room to pursue your love of painting or quilting, organise a friendly game of billiards, invite family for a barbecue or head out for a round of golf. You can be as involved in the community – or as private – as you desire.
Whether it’s a chat in the hallway or catching up for a coffee, you’ll have supportive friends nearby who ‘get’ you and will be around when you need them.
And your family will always be welcome at The Ninth Middle Ridge.
Carmel says moving to her modern apartment at Aura Holdings’ Brisbane golfside community was the perfect decision with its stunning outlook of tall trees of the Indooroopilly Golf Club.
“The garden and the maintenance of a big house got all too much for me living on my own,’’ Carmel says. “Stage one of Somerset Indooroopilly was ready for inspection so a friend and I decided to come for a look. I knew instantly it was the right place for me. My friend put down a deposit on an apartment in the yet-to-be-built second stage and I chose an apartment in stage one. I went home, sold up, downsized and moved in March 2022.
“My interstate family, who were doubtful about my choice in the beginning, came to check it out and were impressed by all the facilities. They just thought it was like a holiday resort and absolutely perfect for me. They have been able to come and stay for weekends.
“I have found everyone here – the village manager and other staff – helpful and kind. Anything you have a problem with you get help with. All the residents are also so friendly and we have lots of get togethers if you want to attend.
“Living beside a golf course means it’s so peaceful and green but you certainly don’t have to be interested in golf. Actually, I have never even overheard a golf discussion here and all the residents I know don’t play golf.
“I also feel totally secure and really safe. I couldn’t be happier as it was the best decision I could have taken. I love it, just love it.’’
Iola has always loved Cavalier King Charles spaniels and shares her apartment with Dolly, the seventh spaniel she has owned. When looking for a retirement living option, Iola says it was essential that Dolly was warmly welcomed too.
“They are such a beautiful dog to look at and they just seem to suit my own nature so well, being placid, very adaptable and also willing to walk,’’ Iola says. “Dolly is just the most wonderful company and she has settled into village living very well. She loves all the other residents and is terribly friendly.
“I really enjoy living at the village because, being quite a private person, there is the ability to join in activities as you wish with no pressure. I like having people around to say hello to, I enjoy playing Scrabble with a group and taking part in the Zumba classes, which my sister who lives locally also attends.’’
Previously a scientist in the agricultural industry, Robert keeps active with his love for gardening. In fact, if you were to visit Robert’s balcony today, you would see a flourish of bright flowers and fresh herbs.
“I love to garden but I am grateful not to have to worry about home maintenance anymore. You won’t find me mowing the lawn, trimming trees or painting; it’s really nice to have that behind us.
“It’s been a really positive experience living in an apartment in a retirement village. My advice is, don’t leave it too late to really consider making the move.”
Helen is in a rather unique situation as her daughter and son-in-law also live at Aura Holdings’ Somerset Indooroopilly community as her neighbours.
“I am very pleased to be living here,’’ Helen says. “I wake up every morning with a smile on my face because I’ve got no worries at all. The staff have been wonderful and having my daughter Melissa and her husband Ian here too has helped me to settle in so well.
“When new people move in they quickly become our friends. We all just share our days together and it really is a wonderful place to live. Everyone we meet seems to have a connection somewhere along the line probably because most of us have lived in the same area.
“We have a beautiful outlook from our apartments with all the open space that the golf course provides. It’s particularly peaceful at night, there’s no noise at all.
“The worry of trying to manage a family home on my own has been lifted off my shoulders. I can now look forward to the rest of my life quietly living here in this wonderful place.’’
