Stage 2 rising from the ground

Thursday, 9 April 2020

There’s been a hive of activity on site at The Avenue Maroochydore retirement community as stage 2 continues to rise from the ground.

Concrete has been poured on the third level and sheeting, wall framing and plumbing are continuing on the lower levels. This is the final stage of our beautiful two-stage independent living community on Baden Powell St at Maroochydore.

A very welcome pool is part of the community facilities in stage 2. It has been designed by O’Neil Architecture and Woollam Construction group is undertaking the building work due to be completed late 2020.

On completion The Avenue will offer 113 apartments. Stage 1 opened in July 2019 and a  very happy group of residents are thriving in their new maintenance-free lifestyle in the friendly community.

The month has been a very challenging time with the Covid-19 pandemic causing chaos in all our lives and the way we live.

The Avenue Maroochydore has strict measures in place for the safety and protection of all our residents and staff. Sadly, Aura Holdings had to make the difficult decision to close all communal areas of the village including the gym, library, craft room and billiards room.

Our residents are currently complying with the Federal Government’s recommendations to self isolate. All our wonderful residents can be assured that while they might need to physically isolate, they are not alone.

Village Manager Mandy and all staff are doing an amazing job to support our residents by keeping in contact with them and ensuring their daily needs are met. Where needed, they have organised for the delivery of foodstuff, groceries and pharmaceutical items.

All visitors to the village must sign in at the front desk and use the provided hand sanitiser. Any communal areas such as the lifts are regularly sanitised by staff.

Our wonderful residents have maintained their good humour by keeping busy inside their independent living apartments with craft activities, movies, TV series, puzzles, brain teasers and staying connected by phone or social media with their family, friends and other residents.

The residents became multi-media stars when Channel 7 and 9 on the Sunshine Coast and the local newspaper featured them playing Balcony Bingo. The self-isolating residents took part from their own balconies with Village Manager Mandy calling out the numbers with a loud hailer from the ground floor.

While it’s been a challenging time for everyone, our residents at The Avenue know they are in a supportive and caring community. Together we will come through this crisis.
