Construction of Somerset Indooroopilly is underway!

It’s happening! Construction of Somerset Indooroopilly officially started yesterday with Woollam Constructions taking over the site within the Indooroopilly Golf Club.

Site fencing and the builders’ compound of sheds will start appearing, with the first major construction activity being the start of excavation for the basement.

Early this month a soil-turning ceremony was conducted on the site of the luxurious retirement living community. The turning of the soil was conducted by representatives from Aura Holdings, Woollam Constructions, IGC president Mike Hume and future Somerset Indooroopilly resident Lucy Ward.

Members of the Indooroopilly Golf Club’s board of directors and current and past club presidents attended to witness the event. The group travelled via a convey of golf buggies from the clubhouse to the construction site on Meiers Road.

Somerset Indooroopilly stage one will provide 80 two and three-bedroom apartments and four luxuriously-appointed penthouses set across four low-rise buildings in Brisbane’s inner west. Planning is already underway for stage two, the final stage.

Somerset Indooroopilly, only 7km from Brisbane’s CBD, is named after the original homestead, Somerset, built around 1900 by district pioneer Henry Thomas on a site now part of the golf course.

Interest is already high in the latest development by Aura Holdings, a Queensland-based retirement village provider and operator, with expressions of interest taken for 45 per cent of total sales.

Aura Holdings’ director Mark Taylor said the project was appealing to both golfers and non-golfers. “Somerset will deliver something exceptional for over-60s,’’ Mr Taylor said. “What’s not to love about residing within one of Brisbane’s most prestigious golf courses and being able to sit on your own balcony just taking in 130ha of tranquil, green space so close to the city.

“Our retirees will live within a course and a suburb that they know and love. Many of the residents of Brisbane’s inner west have lived in the area a long time and when they decide to downsize to a maintenance-free living they don’t want to move far away.

“A peaceful, secure lifestyle among like-minded neighbours on this premier course has a lot of appeal for retirees who desire to live independent lives with support on hand if needed.’’

Residents will share a range of unmatched community facilities including a pool and spa, gymnasium, wine room, library, private dining room, outdoor barbecue areas, with a hairdresser and consultation suites for allied health professionals.

Golfers will appreciate the addition of their own golf club storage and 30 undercover parking spaces for buggies.
