Meet David: The Friendly Face Behind Aura’s New Bus Service

A middle-aged man with short gray hair wearing a blue and white striped shirt stands outside, leaning on a railing with trees and a building in the background.

At Aura, it’s the people who bring our communities to life, and we’re excited to introduce one of our newest team members, David Schacht, who has recently joined us as our bus driver.

With decades of experience behind the wheel and a genuine passion for people, David is already helping shape what this new service will mean for residents across our communities.

A lifetime on the road

David brings an incredible depth of experience to the role, having worked across the transport industry for most of his life. From buses and limousines to taxis, trucks, and even tour management and logistics coordination, there’s not much he hasn’t driven.

Growing up on a family farm, David says his driving journey started early, long before he was legally allowed on the road.

“I’ve been driving since I could reach the pedals,” he laughs.

Originally from the Gold Coast, David still feels most at home by the water, now swapping surfboards for ocean swims and beach walks. Outside of work, he enjoys gardening, tennis, hiking, and travelling whenever time allows. He also volunteers with Team Rainbow Inc., where he supports the community as Treasurer and Events Manager.

At home, life is just as lively, shared with his partner, son, and three very personality-filled pets: Princess the cat, who firmly runs the household, and two miniature dachshunds, Duke and Duchess.

More than just a driver

For David, this role is about much more than getting from A to B.

“What really drew me to Aura was the opportunity to build something from the ground up,” he says. “It’s about helping residents stay active, connected, and engaged with the wider community.”

With a background in tour operations and client transport, David understands that every journey is an experience, not just a destination.

“A great bus driver is someone who connects with people, understands their needs, and goes that extra bit further to make their day enjoyable,” he explains. “Sometimes you have to wear a few different hats.”

Creating enjoyable journeys

Since joining Aura, David has been busy planning outings, trialling routes, and connecting with local businesses and organisations to create meaningful experiences for residents.

From essential trips like shopping and appointments to social outings and day trips, his focus is always the same: making each journey safe, comfortable, and enjoyable.

And don’t be surprised if there’s a little fun along the way.

“I’m always up for a singalong or a bit of ‘bus-oke’,” he says. “It’s all about creating a relaxed and happy atmosphere.”

Looking ahead

What David is most excited about is getting to know residents and becoming a familiar, friendly face in the community.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone and helping make Aura communities even better,” he says.

With favourite destinations like Noosa, Byron Bay, and scenic rainforest walks high on his list, residents can expect some thoughtfully planned outings in the future.
