Last week an attentive audience filled the function room at Kingsford Terrace retirement community in Corinda to listen to Ita Buttrose AO OBE launch the CHAT Speaker Series made possible by the partnership of in-home care provider, Five Good Friends and Apia.

The CHAT Speaker Series (Care Help Ageing Thriving) is a ‘thought leadership’ programme that connects experts in the area of positive ageing with the local community through powerful and engaging free talks.

Media icon and Five Good Friends Ambassador, Ita Buttrose AO OBE was the guest speaker of the session hosted at Kingsford Terrace retirement community.

Ita discussed that, “while many people have a plan for retiring, very few people have a plan for growing old well and happy.”

Among many messages about positive ageing, Ita stressed the importance of physical exercise for both the body and the mind and keeping social as you grow old.

Those attending enjoyed hearing Ita’s entertaining anecdotes from her long trailblazing career and personal stories of caring for her father with dementia.

Tim Russell, Director of Aura Holdings – operator of Kingsford Terrace retirement community, closed the session by discussing the benefits of retirement living in improving social isolation.

“At Kingsford Terrace retirement community, you are surrounded by a community of like-minded neighbours.” Mr Russell said.

“We host regular exercise classes, resident drinks and other social activities, and you have the opportunity to engage in as much or as little as you like,” Mr Russell added.
