A new Maroochydore cafe is set to serve their customers like royalty after one of the brains behind the business served as a butler to the Queen.

Jamie Milverton and Richard Lane have a combined 70 years’ experience in the hospitality industry and have now opened the doors to their new joint venture, Barista on Baden, in the heart of Maroochydore.

Mr Lane, who is the owner of The Coffee Crew, was a butler to the Queen for 24 hours when she stayed at the Novotel Twin Waters in 2003 for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

“I was the guest relations manager at the resort and had over 20 years’ experience in five-star hotels so I was the chosen one to work for the Queen,” he said. “I served her drinks on arrival, lunch, afternoon tea and breakfast in the morning.

“She was very unassuming and she did like her tipple but I had plenty of practice so everything was spot on and it went well.”

Barista on Baden is situated on the ground floor of The Avenue Maroochydore retirement community and Mr Milverton said the business had been going great since they opened their doors in early September.

“Everything has been going really well at the moment and we’re already talking about acquiring our liquor license for some pop-up nights of cocktails, wine appreciation and inviting in other chefs,” he said.

“It is open to the public and they can definitely come and enjoy themselves but there is a focus on the residents staying here to get them down and socialising.”

Mr Milverton, who is the owner of Beach Road Coffee and Yard Cafe, said it’s another family based business.

“Both Richard and myself run family businesses as we have our kids involved and working for us when they can,” he said. “This is another venture and it ties in well given we are a family-friendly environment and inviting to the elderly.”

Barista on Baden is open Monday to Saturday from 7.30am at 1/32 Baden Powell Street.
