What a day at Somerset Indooroopilly.
Somerset proudly opened its doors to residents, families, friends, and the wider local community for a special Community Open Day on Saturday, 30 May. With more than 300 people attending throughout the day, guests had the opportunity to explore the community at their own pace and experience the Somerset lifestyle firsthand.
After weeks of planning, the rain finally cleared, delivering blue skies, sunshine and a vibrant atmosphere for the biggest event held at Somerset to date.
From the moment guests arrived, the village buzzed with energy, laughter, and connection as attendees explored and enjoyed activities on offer.
One of the standout features of the event was the incredible resident-led showcases from the Somerset community. Guests enjoyed a beautiful choir performance, while talented resident artists displayed their work in a stunning art exhibition. The knitting, quilting and craft groups also proudly showcased their handmade creations, igniting conversations and admiration throughout the day.
Interactive experiences brought even more energy to the day, with a live cooking demonstration by Sarah Stowe from Garnish Catering drawing an eager crowd. Showcasing her culinary flair, Sarah prepared a Vietnamese Noodle Salad with Zesty Prawns and a hearty Moroccan Lamb Pearl Cous Cous. At the same time, guests enjoyed the delicious aromas and sampled fresh tastings straight from the kitchen.
Councillor Penny Wollf was also in attendance, where she took the time to mingle, further enhancing the sense of connection at the event.
Food and hospitality played a major role in the day’s festivities, with guests enjoying a classic BBQ, ice cream, freshly brewed coffee, and a delicious spread of baked goods while listening to live entertainment with classic hits, inspiring many to sing along.
Families and children embraced the fun, with face painting, giant lawn games, and budding green thumbs painted and potted herbs and flowers to take home.
Inspections of display apartments and facilities were particularly popular, with many guests taking the opportunity to explore the beautifully designed spaces.
The feedback received was overwhelmingly positive, with residents and visitors describing the event as beautiful, welcoming, and well-executed. Many were impressed by the quality of the offerings and the inviting atmosphere, which sparked interest in the community and potential future living opportunities.
Most importantly, the Open Day highlighted what makes Somerset special – a connected community with welcoming residents, engaging lifestyle opportunities, and an authentic sense of belonging. The day was a celebration of pride, community spirit, beautifully reflecting everyday life at Somerset Indooroopilly. Seeing residents proudly share their homes, hobbies, and stories created a genuine sense of connection that could be felt across the village from beginning to end.
