Omicron: you are not alone

With Omicron spreading rapidly, Aura Holdings is acting to limit possible infections in our retirement villages while supporting our residents.

Supporting our residents through the Omicron crisis

Friday, 7 January 2022

With the highly-contagious Covid variant Omicron spreading rapidly, Aura Holdings has taken action to limit possible infections in our southeast Queensland retirement villages and support residents who may receive a positive test result.

“During this unfolding health crisis, the wellbeing of our residents is Aura’s priority. If a resident needs to self-isolate in their apartment they can be assured of support in their isolation and recovery,’’ Aura Holdings’ Director Mark Taylor says.

“To minimise transmission and ensure others are aware of an active infection in their village, we have procedures in place to immediately inform all residents.’’

All visitors to our villages must register at our entrances and use the Queensland Government’s QR code. Sanitiser stations have also been set up at entry points.

Village staff have cleaning/sanitising protocols for all common areas, while touch points such as entrances and lifts are sanitised daily.

“While we provide independent living for retirees, the management and staff at our villages will ensure that any resident requiring to be isolated receives all the assistance they need,’’ Mark says.

“Staff will make sure any resident in isolation receives emergency items, groceries or pharmaceuticals delivered safely to their apartment. Those residents will also receive daily welfare checks and issues such as household rubbish will be removed safely.

“Many of our residents have commented how safe and supported they felt during previous lockdowns and in this current situation.’’

“During Covid outbreaks it’s become very obvious that a major advantage of living in a retirement community is the like-minded and supportive people who surround you. Over the two years of this ongoing pandemic it has been a privilege to witness the care our residents and staff have extended to others in their communities.’’

Any resident who receives a positive test result is required to follow Queensland Health orders and isolate for seven days after taking the test.

Queensland Health also recommends that you be double vaccinated and receive your booster after four months.

If there is an active case in the village, we ask other residents to maintain social distancing, wear a face mask in common areas, maintain good hand hygiene and get tested if they have any symptoms then isolate until the result is known.

“Aura has established a COVID-19 Response Committee that continues to review government health advice and provide updates to residents. Our aim is to provide correct information and remain vigilant with regards to your health,’’ Mark says.

“This is not a time of panic but to implement our carefully considered plans to handle the spread of Omicron with extra vigilance combined with care and support for all residents. We are here for you.’’

If you have received a positive test result or have any health concerns, please immediately contact your Village Manager for advice.
