Woollam appointed to build Somerset Indooroopilly community
PRESS RELEASE - Thursday, 30 April 2020
Aura Holdings is pleased to announce the appointment of established Brisbane company, Woollam Constructions, to build its much-anticipated retirement village within the prestigious Indooroopilly Golf Course.
Somerset Indooroopilly will provide 168 two or three-bedroom apartments and luxurious four-bedroom penthouses set across four low-rise buildings in Brisbane’s inner west. Pre-construction work has already begun on site and now major building will begin on the Meiers Road site. Cox Architecture has undertaken all design work for the project.
Woollam Constructions was established in Brisbane in 1884 and has left its mark on the architectural heritage of cities and towns across Queensland and NSW. Woollam has been responsible for some of Queensland’s most iconic buildings including The Breakfast Creek Hotel in Brisbane in 1889 and the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame in Longreach.
Aura Holdings’ director Mark Taylor said he was proud to welcome Woollam to the project. “I am confident the highly experienced team at Woollam will bring our dream alive for Somerset Indooroopilly. Somerset will deliver something exceptional for over 60s,’’ Mr Taylor said.
“The staff of Woollam are highly respected leaders in the field of construction of innovative designs for senior living communities and Somerset Indooroopilly will be the company’s third collaboration with Aura Holdings.’’
Woollam built The Avenue Maroochydore’s Stage 1 last year and is currently building Stage 2, and is constructing The Pavilion North Kirra.
Woollam Constructions managing director Craig Percival said the two companies already had a strong and successful relationship.
“Woollam is thrilled to work with Aura Holdings to build thriving communities that truly focus on the residents, their comfort and their wellbeing,” Mr Percival said.
''Our people take enormous pride in the work that builds these communities and this project is going to be another example of the highest level of liveability.’’
Somerset Indooroopilly, a high-end independent living community, only 7km from Brisbane’s CBD, is named after the original homestead, Somerset, that was built around 1900 by district pioneer Henry Thomas on a site now part of the golf course.
Interest is already high in the latest development by Aura Holdings, a Queensland-based retirement village provider and operator, with 40 per cent of apartments reserved.
“It’s on a course and in a suburb that so many people know and love,’’ Mr Taylor said. “Many residents of Indooroopilly and the surrounding suburbs have lived in the area for a long time and when they downsize or retire they don’t want to move away.
“A peaceful, secure lifestyle among like-minded neighbours on this premier course in a green oasis so close to the CBD is very appealing to both keen golfers and non-golfers.
“Somerset Indooroopilly will offer residents a relaxed, maintenance-free lifestyle with care services on hand if needed going forward to ensure our retirees continue living the independent lives they crave.’’
Residents will share a range of unmatched community facilities including a pool and spa, gymnasium, wine room, library, private dining room, outdoor barbecue areas, with a hairdresser and consultation suites for allied health professionals.
Golfers will appreciate the addition of their own golf club storage and 30 undercover parking spaces for buggies.
Building work is expected to be completed late 2021.
