Soil turning tees off construction for retirement community within Indooroopilly Golf Club

Aura Holdings will turn the soil on the site of its latest retirement living community, Somerset Indooroopilly, to be built within the prestigious Indooroopilly Golf Club.

Somerset Indooroopilly stage one will provide 80 two and three-bedroom apartments or four luxuriously-appointed penthouses set across four low-rise buildings in Brisbane’s inner west. Planning is already underway for stage two, the final stage.

Cox Architecture has designed the village and Woollam Constructions has been appointed to build Somerset Indooroopilly. Pre-construction work, including raising the dam wall, drainage, new paths and vehicle access, has been completed on site with major building starting this month.

Somerset Indooroopilly, a high-end independent living community, only 7km from Brisbane’s CBD, is named after the original homestead, Somerset, built around 1900 by district pioneer Henry Thomas on a site now part of the golf course.

Interest is already high in the latest development by Aura Holdings, a Queensland-based retirement village provider and operator, with 40 per cent of apartments reserved.

Aura Holdings’ director Mark Taylor said the project was appealing to both golfers and non-golfers.

“Somerset will deliver something exceptional for over-60s,’’ Mr Taylor said. “What’s not to love about residing within one of Brisbane’s most prestigious golf courses and being able to sit on your own balcony just taking in 130ha of tranquil, green space so close to the city.

“Our retirees will live within a course and a suburb that they know and love. Many of the residents of Brisbane’s inner west have lived in the area a long time and when they decide to downsize to a maintenance-free living they don’t want to move far away.

“A peaceful, secure lifestyle among like-minded neighbours on this premier course has a lot of appeal for retirees who desire to live independent lives with support on hand if needed.’’

Residents will share a range of unmatched community facilities including a pool and spa, gymnasium, wine room, library, private dining room, outdoor barbecue areas, with a hairdresser and consultation suites for allied health professionals.

Golfers will appreciate the addition of their own golf club storage and 30 undercover parking spaces for buggies.

Building work is expected to be completed late 2021.
