Baby Boomer retirees demand bigger and better on the Sunshine Coast!

Construction is now complete on the largest retirement living apartments on the Sunshine Coast, catering to today’s discerning Baby Boomer retirees who demand bigger and better accommodation.

The Avenue Maroochydore retirement community has floor plans larger than 200sq m in its final-stage building – changing the face of retirement living for the 21st century.

Aura Holdings’ director Tim Russell says: “Today’s retirees demand a very high standard and their idea of downsizing does not involve moving to a one-bedroom apartment without the space for all the precious things they have accrued. Instead, modern retirees view downsizing as gaining freedom from all the maintenance and stress associated with the old family home and garden.

“The Avenue Maroochydore is addressing this gap in the Sunshine Coast market for high quality, spacious retirement living apartments near facilities and the water in a small, connected, supportive community.

“When we designed the final stage of The Avenue we listened to a section of our buyers who told us they wanted bigger and better. Our largest apartments are over 200sq m offering three bedrooms, two with ensuites, a third bathroom, a cook’s kitchen with dual ovens, Smeg appliances, a butler’s pantry, and a large balcony. The master bedroom’s walk-in robe is the size of regular double bedroom. Visitors to The Avenue say: ‘Wow, this looks nothing like retirement living’.

“Today’s retirees are well travelled and often both partners have enjoyed long, rewarding careers, they are financially independent and lead active lives. They won’t compromise on the standard of living they have worked hard to achieve.’’

One of the largest penthouse apartments sold yesterday.

The Avenue, on the corner of Baden Powell St and Anzac Ave, offers a range of apartments and is developed by southeast Queensland based retirement living operator Aura Holdings.

“There’s been a real shift amongst retirees towards apartment living in vertical living villages that require less land and can be built in enviable locations near vital facilities. The Avenue is a short stroll from the retail and entertainment hub of Sunshine Plaza and 200m from the water. Many residents appreciate that going forward when they may no longer be driving that they can still easily access shops, their doctor and other services,’’ Mr Russell says.

“Our residents want to live amongst friendly, like-minded neighbours. They don’t want to live in residential apartments with party-going neighbours or Airbnb renters. They want to know the people they share their lifts with.

“Discreet age-appropriate design features allow our residents to age in place. Today’s retirees have no intention of ending up in nursing homes. They are informed and do their research and make plans for their future to continue living independently with quality in-home support if needed.’’

The Avenue now provides a total 113 apartments with state-of-the-art communal facilities, close to shops, restaurants and cafes and medical facilities. Stage one opened in July 2019 with 49 apartments.

The heated magnesium pool will add to the community facilities in place including a gym, billiards room, library, wine room and courtyard entertainment areas. The café is next!

The pet-friendly village was constructed on the almost 1ha site that had been home to the Maroochy Swans Bowls Club.

Apartments at The Avenue stage two range from $465,000 to $1.35 million.
